A weekend experiment in rendering a night sky from real star catalogues, entirely in the browser.
The problem
I wanted to see how far a canvas and a public star catalogue could go.
Approach
- Parsed a hundred thousand stars into a compact binary format.
- Rendered with a single draw call per frame.
- Added a time slider to watch the sky turn.
Outcome
A fun detour that taught me more about performance than most client work.
